Effect of rootstocks and planting density on the growth and productivity of Jonagold apple trees

The results showed that tree growth, fruit yield, yield efficiency and fruit weight depended on rootstocks and tree spacing. The highest growth and yield were obtained for M9 and P16 rootstocks. The increased number of trees per ha significantly reduced tree growth and fruit weight, but significantly increased cumulative yield/ha. Yield efficiency was the highest for P16, and for trees spaced 3.5 m x 1.0 m (2850 trees/) or 3.5 m x 0.75 m (3800 trees/ha). The trial shows that cumulative yield (t/ha) was higher for the dwarf rootstocks P16 and M9, and for trees planted at the highest densities 3.5 m x 0.4 m, 3.5 m x 0.5 m and 3.5 m x 0.6 m (7140, 5710 and 4760 trees/ha, respectively)
