Effect of limited hypolimnetic withdrawal on the content of nitrogen and phosphorus in the waters of Kortowskie Lake
2001

The object of the study was Kortowskie Lake, which is restored with a method consisting in the withdrawal of hypolimnetic waters, rich in nutritive substances, through a pipeline leading directly to a runoff. The content of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds in the water of the lake was analysed after the water flow in the pipeline was reduced from 0.25 cubic m/s. Direct effects of the hypolimnetic withdrawal were observed in near-bottom waters during the summer stagnation. A distinct reduction in the concentration of nitrogen and phosphorus was observed near bottom in the experimental basin of Kortowskie Lake. By replacing the surface water outflow with hypolimnetic withdrawal, however limited, a favourable effect was achieved in the elimination of biogenic substances from the water ecosystem
