The startegical plan should concentrate on directing the economical future, identifying the most important goals which the local community wants to achieve in the given area. The plan should enable the community to create an own image and should present itself as an efficient marketing product promoting the area. Common working out of the plan allows to involve wider groups of people in rural areas into the decision-making concerning the community. The conditions of economic development in rural areas, the essence, goals and tasks of strategical planning as well as the stages of creating a development strategy have been presented
