Studies on utilization of sugar beet pulp for citric acid production by solid state fermentation are described. Solid state fermentation were performed in 1000 ml glass beakers (static method) using high activity Aspergillus niger strain. Under optimum conditions the best citric acid producing strain Asp.niger S produced more than 115 g of citric acid per kg of dry substance of sugar beet pulp fermented during 72 h of cultivation
