Foliar application of a mixture of herbicides containing phenmedipham, desmedipham and ethofumesate to the plants of nine strawberry cultivars revealed variations in plant tolerance to the applied herbicides. In 1994 and 96 the relationship between herbicide application and net photosynthetic intensity was determined by means of an infrared gas analyser. Reduction in photosynthetic intensity in strawberry leaves following spraying with the above-mentioned mixture was greater in cultivars having a very high tolerance. Measurements of photosynthetic intensity can be used as supplementary method of assessing the suitability of phenmedipham, desmedipham and ethofumesate mixtures for weed control in new strawberry cultivars
