The water systems of the Ustya, Zamchysko and Ikva rivers are studied, which belong to the zone of active anthropogenic influence. Main pollutants in the water of the rivers are found to be biogenic compounds and also copper and chromium compounds. Analysis of the quality of water of the the rivers is carried out. By using methods of determining phytoindicator information ability, three macrophyte species groups are isolated according to sensitivity thereof to water pollution. Those groups are taken as a basis for determining plant weight coefficients for calculating a phytoindication index. A new technique of assessing the state of water ecosystems is developed based on high acquatic vegetation thereof
