In the present paper influence of a width and a position of a breach on the conservative property of the MacCormack scheme is analysed. Investigation into the conservative property of the scheme is conducted through the examination of the volume-balance relative error arising from the numerical simulation of the shock-wave propagation induced by instantaneous, partial dam-breach. Two characteristic positions of the breach are analysed. One near the bank, and the other, in the middle of the channel width and symmetrical to its axis. Breaches spreading over 10% and 50% of the total channel width are analysed. In addition to instantaneous partial dam-breach, to instantaneous breach is analysed, too.
