Terra rossa soils at wild pyrethrum habitats in Montenegro (Serbia&Montenegro) are neutral to slightly alkaline in the root-accessible humus horizon, which is an important precondition for plant growth, while the cambic horizons are medium acid to neutral. Closely related with pH, hydrolytic acidity has very low values in all profiles, while exchange acidity was more evident. Saturation of soil with exchangeable basic cations was very high in the humus horizon, and medium to very high in the cambic horizon. The investigated soils had low, medium and high humus contents. Total nitrogen was found in high contents in the humus horizon, while its content in the cambic horizon was around the limit area between medium and high. Available phosphorus was found in low contents, while available potassium content varied. Available zinc, manganese, copper and iron were found in very high contents. Besides low contents of available phosphorus and difficult mineralization of nitrogen caused by moisture deficit, some other unfavourable relief and physical properties of the investigated pyrethrum habitats in Montenegro - such as steep declines, rocky surface, irregular depth and coarse fragments in some profiles - are also responsible for the soils general character. They make the soils water permeable and dry, especially during the vegetation period of the year when moisture index drops below 1.
