Over the 2-year research (1996-1997) the effects of increasing nitrogen rates and utilization phase on yield and quality of the maize hybrid NS-640, was studied. The experiment was performed on the smonitza type of soil. The variants used in the experiment were, as follows: control - without fertilization, N1 - 90 kg of N/ha, N2 - 120 kg of N/ha, N3 - 150 kg of N/ha and P and K 75 kg/ha each. Since maize, except of grain, may be efficiently used as green matter, primarily for ensilaging, the samples were taken over three pheno phases, i.e. in the phase of coming off of tassels, milk wax and full grain maturity. The yields of dry fodder matter, grains and the content and yield of raw proteins as well as the energetic value (NEL and NEM) were determined per pheno phases.
