Mastitis is a complex disease that results from interaction between each individual animal and microorganisms. Infections of the mammary gland can occur in all cows, and their incidence is increased in conditions of intensive milk production. General and special measures are applied to control mastitis in intensive breeding conditions of cows. The basic mastitis control program includes reducing the duration of infection (treatment of lactating cows, dry period treatment, culling of chronic clinical cases), reducing the new infection rate (milking hygiene, servicing and maintaining milking machinery), monitoring rate. Success in controlling mastitis equally depends on the prevention of the appearance of new infections and the therapy for existing ones.
