Lithotamnium limestone - the new fertilizer for calcification of acidic soils
2003

All investigations indicate that problem of productionof plant cultures at the acidic soils in Loznica area, Serbia (Serbia&Montenegro) can be dissolved with calcification and neutralization of pH of these soils. For this investigations, lithotamic limestone from "Dobrilovici" deposit was used. The experiments showed that production potential of investigated soils, expressed through the decrease of soils acidity, was higher when limestone was applied. Thus, with relatively small amount of mineral fertilizer, the application of lithotamic limestone increased corn yield from 6% to 36% and barley yield for 22%. Also, compared with combine application of mineral and manure fertilizers, application of this limestone, in combination with mineral and organic fertilizers, increased corn yield from 5% to 26%. Compared to control treatment (when only mineral fertilizer was applied), in this treatment, absolutely the highest yields (from 20-40%) of experimental cultures were achieved. Because, all investigations of application of lithotamic limestone from "Dobrilovici" deposit gave positive results, the Department of Agriculture - Loznica, in 2003 started, at the experimental plant, production as well as distribution of this material with trade name KALKOMEL-L, for calcification and neutralization of acidic soils.
