Effectiveness of certain variants of diazotrophs in barley

The aim of this research was to examine the number of variants and strains of diazotrophs in some varieties of barley. Four strains of Azotobacter chroococcum and two strains of Azospirillum lipoferum, Beijerinckia derx and Klebsiella planticola have been made the subject of the research. Effectiveness of diazotrophs has been determined with three varieties of barley which were grown in greenhouse conditions in the soil of the chernozem, carbon type. Effectiveness depended on the variant and strain of diazotrophs as well as on the examined characteristics. On average, the most effective variant and strain in Viktor variety was Klebsiella planticola, strain 8, in Milan variety it was Beijerinckia derx, strain 2, while in Jelen variety Azotobacter chroococcum, strain 86 was the most effective one. Inoculation has, on average, resulted in almost the same increase of all examined characteristics with all three varieties of barley. Research has shown that the most effective variant and strain of diazotrophs can be selected for every variety of barley, whose application could provide more economical production of barley and ecologically valuable food.
