The problems of soil compaction and all its consequences are well known in contemporary agricultural engineering. The soil stress provoked by every step of cultivation is responsible for further compaction of the soil. In this paper a systematization of measuring systems is given and a method called Soil Layer Method using area sensors is described and tested. The evolution of the proposed method was shown through the pre-experiments and the first phase experiment, including pressure range determination for the chosen area sensors, pressure sensitive film, as well as the method of film calibration. The experiments that are expected to confirm the method at the end of the first phase are also described, and their results are given. The evaluation of prospects of the method as well as the possible applications are given in the last chapter of the paper.
