The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of a back supply of heated fat to a disc drier KDS 250 in a rendering plant, where a continuous drying system is applied. The use of this back supply induces a so-called fritting effect which leads to a quicker water evaporation and shorter redrying time of the meat and bone meal. The consumption of specific energy is reduced, whereby the demand for the Best Available Technique is met.
