Fish population structure in Becva river (Czech Republic) was determined in the years 2000 and 2001. Twenty-two species from 5 families were catched by electrofishing in 4 sampling sites. Barbus barbus, Chondrostoma nasus and Leuciscus cephalus with 4,002, 812 and 1,429 specimens/ha and 414.89, 174.53 and 65.70 kg/ha, respectively, were the dominant species by number and biomass. Their contribution to the total biomass varied from 87.7 to 97.5 %. The distribution of the catched specimens according to their body length showed that B. barbus and L. cephalus successfully reproduced as the number of small specimens was high. On the contrary, in C. nasus the percentage of juveniles was small as more than 53 % of the specimens measured more than 30 cm. The reproduction failure of C. nasus may be contributed to the deterioration of environmental conditions and loss of spawning grounds.
