[Relation between potatoes mechanical damage and their quality and soil tillage]

The effect of reducing the number of stones in potato fields on the mechanical damage of potatoes during their harvest was evaluated in this study. The stones had been removed by special separators before planting the potatoes. As a result, the percentage of undamaged tubers increased from 31.4 to 77.1 % and the number of tubers with lesions deeper than 5 mm decreased from 2.4 to 2.1 %. In comparison with traditional soil tillage with reduced mechanical cultivation the yield in our study increased from 39.1 to 49.7 t/ha.
