An experiment to study the effect of alang-alang extract on armyworms was conducted at the laboratory of Department of Agronomy, and laboratory of Department of Plant Pest and Disease, Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University Padang during the period of July to December 1997. The objective of the experiment was to investigate the efficacy of alang-alang extract to kill the larvae of armyworms. Treatments were arranged factorially in Completely Randomized Design with two factors and three replications. The first factor was alang-alang extract concentration i.e. 0.0 percent; 0.1 percent; 0.5 percent and 1.0 percent. The second factor was the stadia of larvae i.e. instar I, instar III, and instar V. Each treatment consists of ten larvae. The mortality of larvae was observed 5 x 24 hours later. Result indicated that the mortality rate increased significantly as alang-alang extract concentration from 0.1 percent up to 1.0 percent. Instar V was more susceptible than instar III and instar I
