Use of nucellar seedlings is generally recommended for the rejuvenation of declined mandarin orange orchards. Standardization has been done for selection of confirmed nucellar plantlets from seed germination from soil bed at nurserymen's level. Seeds were collected from eighteen plants of mandarin (Citrus reticulata Blanco) for study. Number of seeds per fruit varied between 9.6-20.4. Nucellar embryos could easily and accurately be excised from the seeds after incubation in sterile moist cotton bed for 5-7 days and, their number were found to vary from 1.3-5.6. Nuclear embryos isolated at the initial phase of seed germination on sterile moist cotton bed and consequent transfer in the soil medium gave 2-5 times more nucellar of seedlings than the usual procedure of direct seed sowing in soil medium. The percentage of survivability in both the procedures of seedlings raised was 100 per cent.
