2002
Sharma, J.R. | Lal, R.K. (Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Lucknow (India))
The opium (gum) poppy is cultivated in 0.022-0.023 million ha in India and considerable amount of poppy seeds is produced from gum poppy also. Despite this, India imported 4484 metric tonnes during 2000. Therefore, gum poppy cultivation is obviously not sufficient to meet even the indigenous requirement of poppy seeds. Therefore this study was conducted and our scientists found that India has a fair chance to transform its status from an importing to an exporting country.
