An accelerated kiln drying schedule for yemane was developed by the authors. Gmelina is a new furniture/handicrafts raw material from tree plantation. It has good working properties but it is relatively difficult to dry to required MC [moisture content] using normal kiln drying schedule. Initial studies and industry experiences showed 45 and 60 days kiln drying time of 25- mm and 50- mm thick gmelina lumber, respectively. This project tried to reduce drying time for yemane. Findings showed that the development of the accelerated kiln drying schedule resulted to 10 and 24 days kiln drying time for 25- mm and 50- mm thick lumber, respectively, from green condition to suitable MC for export. Financial analysis showed big savings in the cost of drying operation using the accelerated drying schedule compared to existing industry practices. For 25- mm thick lumber, the operating cost of drying per load was reduced from P78,492 to P17,443. With the use of the accelerated drying schedule, 22 loads or 220,000 bd ft kiln-dried lumber can be produced per year instead of only seven loads or 70,000 bd ft based on industry experience. Further analysis indicated that the expected profit in kiln drying operation is P50,694/load or P1,115,268/year
