Benchmark information on mango production in Mati, Davao Oriental [Philippines] was collected. This information will serve as a guide in formulating appropriate researches on mango and disseminated to improve production and postproduction practices in the area. Thirty farmer-cooperators were the respondents of the survey. The average mango grower-cooperator is 49.5 years old, male, married, with a household size of five, has resided in the place for about 34.3 years, and is either a full or part owner of the mango farm. Farmers have tilled their mango farm for an average of 5.28 years. Only 50% of the grower-respondents have started to realize income from mango. The mango farmers also cultivated coconut, banana, and corn, and also raised livestock. Majority of the mango farms are characteristically clay, nonirrigated, rain-dependent, and have plain-to-rolling topography. The nearest market center and input dealer are easily reached by majority of the respondents. Majority transported their produce via truck with only few using jeepney or carabao. Majority of the farmers went into a 90%:10% (farmer:constructor) sharing arrangement, while a few entered into a 60-70% sharing with mango constructors. From the most recent flowering/fruiting seasons, an average of 14.28% of all the bearing trees of the grower-respondents were included to flower attaining 56.68% success. Multi K and Bloomex were the most common flower inducers used. Farm gate price of harvested mangoes ranged from P14 to P35/kg. A few (37%) sorted their mangoes with large and medium fruits comprising a bigger proportion of the harvest ranging from 11 to 40%. For the 2000 harvest, an average of 2,885 kg was sold by 18 growers to the buyers. Only 43% of the farmers owned the land used to growing mangoes. Twelve owned the farm building while eight had work animals. Only two had farm machinery. These farm assets were acquired in the last nine years. A few, notably members of the Menzi Farmers Cooperative (MEFCO), have incurred loans from banks. Farmers employed labor separately for the various operations in the farm such as pruning, sanitation, fertilizer application, flower induction and crop rotation. Bulk of the expenses of the grower-cooperators consisted of pesticide cost, labor of various operations, fertilizer, and flower inducers. MEFCO spent 78.80-80.73% on pesticides. Farmers used 15 kinds of insecticides, 5 relative to fungicides, and 5 foliar fertilizers. The most commonly used insecticide was Cymbush; fungicide, Dithane, and foliar fertilizer, Growmore. A regimen of 8-11 rounds of pesticide spraying was common among farmer-cooperators. Major problems perceived by growers included pest incidence due to leafhopper, anthracnose, and mealybugs; poor flowering; lack of farm-to-market roads; and low farm gate price
