Effective management and analysis of data generated from participatory research is an emerging issue confronting participatory research practitioners. In this paper, the authors present the challenges experienced in a project that assessed the contribution of sweetpotato to household income and nutrition. Pro-active partnership between the project researchers and data management specialists facilitated the mere systematic collection, analysis, and presentation of data. This partnership is a new approach for an UPWARD [Users' Perspective with Agricultural Research and Development, Los Banos, Laguna, Philippines] supported project; inevitably, several problems were encountered. The most evident were the insufficient capacity of researchers to do statistical analysis and the lack of understanding of statisticians about the idiosyncratic intricacies of participatory research. Based on these lessons, the authors lay down recommendations for other UPWARD projects to follow for better data management
