Effects of coconut leaf pruning (CLP) on nut and copra yield under four coconut-based cropping combinations using bearing tall and local hybrid palms at the Philippine Coconut Authority-Davao Research Center (PCA-DRC) at Bago Oshiro, Davao City [Philippines] (1993-2001) were evaluated. Results of the studies clearly revealed varying levels of reduction on nut and copra yields of coconut. Yield reduction coefficients under two leaf pruning levels were derived and incorporated in the Philippine Coconut Authority's Method of estimating annual coconut yield based on the basic formula: yield + average total nut count from 3 oldest harvestable bunches x 4 (for tall variety) or x 4.8 (for hybrid). Based on these findings, yield predicting models for local tall and hybrid coconuts under coconut-based farming system at two pruning levels (leaf rank number 19 and 23) were determined. By using these models, the potential achievable productivity of local tall and hybrid coconuts at two leaf pruning levels in areas with well distributed rainfall can be predicted
