Evaluation of Em-fermenter [effective microorganism] under wheat-cotton system
2002
Ahmed, A.A.
In order to evaluate the effect of EM fermenters on the growth and yield of wheat, a field experiment was conducted. The soil was clay loam, alkaline, non-saline, low in organic matter (0.85%) and available P and adequate in extractable K. Plant growth data showed that there was no direct effect of EM on height of plants. The data showed that there was no effect of EM on earhead length and number of grains/earhead. Grain and straw yield increased from 987 to 4175 kg/ha and from 1613 to 7475 kg/ha, respectively due to various treatments. A highly significant increase in wheat grain and straw yield was observed with the application of full NP recommended rate. Nitrogen content of leaf ranged from 2.31 to 3.77% for various treatments. application of EM alone slightly increased the N content. However, EM along with 1/2 NP+FYM 10t/ha (TV resulted maximum increase (3.77%) in N content. No significant difference was observed after the application of EM. However, there was a slight increase observed when EM was applied along with 1/2 NP and 10t/ha FYM. The results showed that there was no difference by EM application in leaf and straw. However. EM application with 1/2 NP+FYM (T6) brought a slight difference in grain P content. The results showed that there was a positive effect of EM application on leaf and grain K content. The analytical data of soil after harvest shows that there was no effect of treatments on pH. However; a slight increase was observed in EC. (b) Organic matter content ranged from 0.47 to 0.79% with the average of 0.63. It was observed that improvement in organic matter content of soil was related to the application of FYM and EM. (c) Olsen P content of the soil ranged from 2.2 to 4.9 mg/kg. It was observed that there was significant increase (4.9 mg/kg) with full recommended NP. However, EM along with 1/2 NP and FYM (10t/ha) also contributed much towards P accumulation. (d) The NH4OAc-extractable K contents ranged from 179 to 328 mg/kg. It was observed from the data that the combination of EM with 1/2 NP and FYM increased: the K content. The experimental results showed that no significant effect was observed by the application of EM alone, however, EM along with FYM and NP fertilizer gave better response.
