Yield, yield components and NPK content in grain and straw of different wheat varieties
2002
Shah, J.A.
A field experiment was conducted to compare the yield, yield component and NPK content in grain and straw of ten wheat varieties (Anmol-91, Mehran- 89, Abadgar, T.D-1, Sarsabz, 7005; Inqlab, 7003, T-J-83 and 7001). The recommended doses of NP fertilizers (150 kg N h-1 and 90 kg P2O5 ha-1) were applied in the form of urea and DAP at the time of sowing and first irrigation. Maximum plant height was retained by Mehran-89 (115.4 cm), whereas T.D-1 showed the minimum (74.8 cm). Maximum ear-head length was observed in Abadgar (10.54 cm), whereas minimum (9.16 cm) in 7002 strain. Maximum number of productive tillers/m2 was produced by Anmol-91 (436), whereas minimum in strain 7003 (348). Maximum number of grains/ear-head was noted in Anmol-91 (49), whereas minimum in varieties Inqlab, 7003, T.J-83 and 7001 (40). Maximum seed index was retained by Anmol-91 (47.96 g), whereas minimum by strain 7001 (23.73 g). Maximum grain yield was produced by Anmol-91 (5981 kg ha-1), whereas minimum (2733 kg ha-1) was recorded in 7001. Maximum straw yield was produced by Anmol-91 (9644 kg ha-1), whereas minimum in 7003 (4485 kg ha-1). Average nitrogen content of grains in different wheat varieties was 2.090%. Co- efficient of correlation between grain yield v/s nitrogen content of grain was negative, however grain N v/s grain P and grain N v/s grain K were positive and non-significant. Average P content of grain was 0.59%. The co-efficient of correlation between grain yield v/s grain P was negative but gain P v/s grain K was positive and non-significant. The average K content of grain was 0.43%. The co-efficient of correlation by grin yield v/s K content of grain was negative and non-significant. The average N content of straw was 0.543%. The co-efficient of correlation between straw yield v/s N and K content in straw was positive, while the correlation between straw yield and P in straw was negative. The average P content of straw was 0.064%. The co- efficient of correlation between straw yield v/s straw P and straw P v/s straw K were negative and non- significant. The results revealed that average K content. of straw was 1.650%. The co-efficient of correlation between straw yield v/s straw K was negative and non-significant. It is concluded from the results that under heavy textured and highly calcareous soils, variety Anmol- 91 produced highest grain (5981 kg ha-1) and straw (9644 kg ha-1) yields than other varieties at recommended nitrogen (150 kg ha-1) and phosphorus (90 kg ha-1) doses. It appears that variety Anmol-91 utilized more soil nutrients than other cultivar. It is also observed that their is no significant relationship between NPK content in grain and straw with the yields.
