A linkage study was carried out using two methods namely test- cross and F2 ratio analysis to detect and estimate linkage between cotton leaf curl virus and bacterial blight resistance genes. Chi-square was used to evaluate the amount of deviation. It was clear from the partitioning of (Chi-2) from test- cross that the two single factors are individually good, but that there was very strong evidence for the belief that the factors are not segregating independently of one another. The two dominant allomorphs and the two recessive allomorphs are associated or, in other words, there was very strong evidence for the existence of linkage in the coupling phase. It was shown from F2 results also that the single factor ratios account for very little of the total Chi-2 but that there was a larger component corresponding to linkage. In case of test-cross, the cross over value was 32.8% and linkage strength was 67.2% where as the crossover value incase of F2 population was 25.88% and linkage strength was 74.2%.
