Effect of rooting hormones on stem cuttings of two rose species Rosa bourboniana and Rosa gruss-an-teplitz

Five levels of growth hormones (500, 1000 ppm of IBA, 250 + 250 ppm IBA + IAA 500 + 500 ppm IBA + IAA and control were applied on two varieties (Ross-bourboniana and Rosa gruss-an-teplitz, during 2001. Results shows that Rosa bourboniana performed excellent over Rosa gruss-an-teplitz by taking minimum days for sprouting of' first bud. Minimum days taken for sprouting of first bud were observed in cuttings treated with IBA 500 ppm and IBA + IAA 250 + 250 ppm. Maximum numbers of sprouted buds were found in cuttings treated with IBA 300 ppm and IBA + IAA 250 + 2500 pin. Rosa bourboniana obtained maximum length of sprouted buds than Rosa gruss-an-teplitz. The cuttings treated with IBA I000 ppm showed maximum length of sprouted buds. Rosa bourboniana showed maximum plant height than Rosa gruss-an-teplitz while the cuttings treated with IBA 500 and I000ppm gained maximum plant height in the variety; and treatment interaction V1 T2 and V1 T1 obtained maximum height of plant. Maximum number of roots was observed 1n Rosa bourboniana. The cuttings treated with IBA 1000 ppm produced maximum number of roots. Maximum length of roots per cutting was recorded in Rosa bourboniana. The cuttings treated with indoles buteric acid 1000 ppm exhibited maximum length of roots. In the variety and treatment interaction, V1 T2 gave maximum root lengths. Maximum survival rate was observed in Rosa gruss-an-teplitz. The cuttings treated with IBA 1000 ppm secured best position. In the variety and treatment interaction, V1 T2, V2 T4 and V1 T2 exhibited maximum survival rate from these results it is concluded that indoles butyric acid showed clear dominance over combination of indoles butyric acid plus indoles acetic acid. As for as performance of variety is concerned Rosa bourboniana expressed better Rosa gruss-an-teplitz for all parameters except for survival rate where Rosa gruss-an- teplitz showed good results.
