Nine pollen substitute diets viz; Soybean flour + Vitamin B-complex (T1), Maize flour + Vitamin B-complex (T2), Soybean flour + Vitamin B- complex + Egg yolk (T3), Maize flour + Vitamin B-complex + Egg yolk (T4), Soybean flour + vitamin B-complex + Glysine (T5), Maize flour + Vitamin B- complex + Glysine (T6), Soybean flour + Vitamin B-complex + Methionine (T7), Maize flour + Vitamin B-complex + Methionine (T8) and pollen (T9) were tested n a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) for their performance in supporting the bee colonies of Apis mellifera L. during summer 2002. The diets composed of Maize flour + Vitamin B-complex + Glysine and Maize flour supplemented by Egg Yolk proved the best diets for supporting the colonies of Apis mellifera L. but Soybean flour supplemented with vitamin B-complex and Methionine was found as the best diet for strengthening the colony with an average of 6.24 beeþs frames per colony.
