The factors influencing the sustainable development of rural areas

The quantitative and qualitative changes in agriculture and the natural environment, indicative of the relationship between rural population and the agricultural environment were investigated in 94 village districts in different parts of Poland. A rapid extensification of agricultural production and a marked improvement in the purity of river waters, soil and air were found. Farmers are becoming engaged in new forms of activity to find alternative sources of income, e.g. in agritourism, solar collectors, water and gravitational energy, biofuels and food processing
