The breeding and development of new hop cultivars in Poland started in 1949. From that time, 13 hop cultivars have been relased. Five of them represent the aroma type with an alpha acid content from 4.3 percent (Lubelski) to 6.1 percent (Lomik) and yield from 1.6 t/ha (Nadwislanski) to 2.4 t/ha (Lomik). One of the most important achievements of the breeding programme was to develop the dwarf hops: Zbyszko (bitter) and Limbus (aroma). A new selection of aroma types are in state trials at present
