In this work we propose that morphological plasticity observed in the individuals is essentially regulated by genetic processes, whereas the environmental factors have only a secondary effect. In order to demonstrate this claim, we analyzed two types of morphological structures of regional varieties of apple trees. The study was focused on two sampling areas located in northern Portugal. The methodology considered - a phenetic morpho-environmental analysis - and the statistical multivariate analysis performed allowed us to detect the morphological plasticity of the individuals under study
