Parasites of the cage cultured grouper Epinephelus malabaricus

Prevalence of parasitic infestation and intensities of 345 samples of the cage cultured grouper, Epinephelus malabaricus were examined regularly from five different areas in Thailand during March 1987 to November 1988. Fourteen species of parasites were obtained from all samples which are included 2 parasitic protozoa namely Trichodina sp. and Cryptocaryon irritans; 2 species of monogenea: Cycloplectanum epinephli and Dactylogyrus sp; 3 species of digenea including Gonapodasmius sp. Lecithochirium neopacificum, Prosorhynchus pacificus and Pseudope coeloides sp. A single species of nematode, acanthocephalus and cestode were found and identified as Raphidascaris sp. Acanthocephalus sp., Tetraphyllidea sp. respectively. Thebius sp., Gnathia sp. and blood suching worm, Hirudinea were found attach on the fish skin. Prevalence of parasitic infection, their intensities and localities were discussed.
