Nursing of snake-skined gourami, Trichogaster pectoralis (Regan) in cement tank from the size of 1 inch to 2 and 3 inches

To evaluated the optimal stocking density of nursing snake-skined gourami, Trichogaster pectoralis (Regan) from the size of 1 inch to 2 and 3 inches in 90 cm diameter-circular cement tanks. The fish were fed with 40 percent protein content of instant fish powder feed. The experiment was carried out in 2 treatments and 3 replications. Step 1, evaluated the effects of stocking densities of 100 and 200 fish/square m from the size of 1 inch to 2 inches. Step 2, for the stocking densities of 50 and 100 fish/square m from the size of 2 to 3 inches. The nursing experiment had been conducted for 124 days during April 1, 1994 - August 2, 1994 at Pattani Inland Fisheries Development Center. The results have been assured that the fish of stocking densities of 100 and 200 fish/square m were 5.27 and 4.16 cm in length and 2.09 and 1.03 gm in weight, respectively for 22 days. Average length and weight were highly significant difference. (p0.01) The fish in step 2, the stocking densities of 50 and 100 fish/square m were 7.95 and 6.68 cm in length, and 6.43 and 4.14 gm in weight respectively for 90 days. Both average length and weight were highly significant difference (p0.01). For bionomic considerations, it is suitable to nurse snake-skined gourami fingerling from the size 1 to 2 inches in cement tanks with the stocking density of 100 fish/square m.
