Reverse transcriptase-PCR technique was performed to study the genomic RNA of classical swine fever virus isolates in Thailand. For this purpose, three pairs of primers were selected from different parts of classical swine fever virus genome. The results were obtained by one primer pair from a highly conserved 5 untranslated region of this genome, which is a genomic fragment common for all pestiviruses strains. The amplification products, DNA fragments of 74 bp, could be amplified from the isolates tested. The other two pairs of primers, classical swine fever virus group-specific primers, were selected from the genomic region encoding the nonstructural proteins. By using these primers, no positive reactions were observed.
