Relay planting groundnut with corn is a popular system in Srisaket province. Top cut of corn stalk (above ear) decreases shading effect of corn on groundnut. Cutting only the leaf blade is easier than cutting the stalk. This experiment was conducted to find out how much leaves could be cut without affecting corn yield and could decrease shading effect on groundnut. At 28 days after silking, 7 levels of leaf cutting (treatments) were performed which were 1) top cut (50 percent) 2) 1/2 leaf cut (50 percent) 3) 3/4 leaf cut (75 percent) 4) 3/4 leaf cut below ear and 1/2 leaf cut above (62 percent) 5) whole leaf cut below ear and 1/2 leaf cut above (75 percent) 6) whole leaf cut below ear and no cut above and 7) no cut. The experiment was conducted at Khon Kaen and Loie. The results showed that if the leaves were cut less than 75 percent there were no effect on corn yield. Light penetration was increased 28-63 percent depending on percentage of leaf cutting. Cutting corn leaves can increase yield of groundnut and make it easier to plant groundnut interrow of corn.
