Soil moisture characteristic curve for the entire moisture range (saturation to oven dry) was determined in the laboratory using suction plate, pressure plate and vapor equilibrium methods. The whole curve was then fitted with a three-straight-line semilog model. The empirical three-straight-line semilog model fitted the relationship between soil water content and water suction extremely well with R sup(2)0.98. Soil moisture prediction with the model showed perfect correlation (r = 0.99) with the measured values at a 1 percent level of probability.
