Cereals-legumes intercropping system: Plant arrangement and soybean plant density

Three plant spacings and three row arrangements of soybean were intercropped with a row of corn. Intercropping appeared to affect corn yield in comparison to sole corn but there was no practical difference among intercropped treatments. Soybean yield was severely affected by corn, it increased with narrow plant spacing for any planting pattern. There was no yield advantage of the treatments used. The soybean component of LER was very low.
