Yield performance of true potato seed as influenced by spacing and number of seedlings per hill

Effect of three levels of intra-row spacings and four levels of number of seedling per hill of transplanted hybrid TPS progeny, 'Atzimba x R-128.6 on seedling tuber production and plant characters were assessed. The percentage of canopy coverage and tuber yield in accordance with treatments were found significantly different. The highest percentage of canopy coverage was obtained from the spacing 60*20 cm with four seedlings per hill while the lowest was in the spacing 60*25 cm with the same seedlings per hill. The spacing 60*20 cm with two seedlings per hill also produced the highest yield (20.8 t/ha) while the lowest yield (13.0 t/ha) was obtained from 60*20 cm spacing with three seedlings per hill. The maximum number of medium size tubers were produced in the closer spacings with one seedling per hill.
