A study of the influence of housing and nutrition oon the productivity of sows and piglets. I. Effect of increased energy level of feed mixtures at the end of pregnancy

A scientific experiment was conducted with 24 White Danube breed and their farrows, divided in 4 groups. Seven days before and 4 days after farrowing 6 sows of the group housing and 6 sows of the individual housung were given 400 g of sugar extra with their feed mixture. The experiment started at the beginning of the dry period and ended with the weaning of piglets when they were 35 days old. The results indicate that adding 400 g of sugar to feed mixtures of sows 7 days before and 4 days after farrowing had a positive not verified statistically effect on number of piglets, the weight of the farrows and had a strong influence on the number of piglets on the 35 day of weaning.
