The aim of the investigation was to determine category of genotoxic effect on cell culture in vitro conditions and on places where wastewaters flow into natural recipient. We analyzed wastewater on six localities, where food of animal origin is produced. Following matters were found the permitted values according to the Regulations on Dangerous Matter in Water (Sluzbeni glasnik SRS, br. 31/82): phosphamide, chloranil, lindane, hydroxyde sulphide, iron and cadmium. Above the permitted value were: ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, fat acids, phenol, formaldehyde and trichlorethylen. These matters in discovered quantities were injected in cell cultures MDBK and PK 15. Chromosomes were analyzed by cytogenetic methods. The obtained results show that these agens cause changes in mitotic cell activity, occurrence of polyploid cells, changes in morphological structure of metaphase chromosomes, reduced structure changes on acrocentric chromosomes and segregation of chromosomes. Discovered changes on genetic material warn us that in wastewater are present potentially genotoxic matters that influence on fine structure of hereditary base and, depending on quantity, they may cause changes that precede to harmful mutation in the living world.
