Difficulties in diagnosing Trichinella spiralis

The most important source of infection with Trichinella spiralis in people are products made of pork that has not been checked on Trichinella spiralis. However, certain number of infections are due to meat where no infective larvae were detected by trichinoscope. Analyzing 69 outbreaks that occurred in last five years (1998-2002), it was discovered that in 22 of them meat was examined by trichinoscope. The aim of the paper is to point on real factors that cause that the results of trichinoscope are negative although infective larvae of Trichinella spiralis is present in meat, and to suggest appropriate improvement.
