The hemp is very attractive as a raw material for pulp and paper production because of very high productivity of biomass (2-2.5 fold higher that can be produced from the same area of forest), and higher amount of cellulose and lower amount of lignin than in softwood and hardwood, as well as environmental reasons. In this paper, preliminary results of kraft pulping of domestic long hemp fibre and hemp woody core (shives), as well as chemi-thermomechanical pulping of shives were presented. Obtained results were shown that hemp can meet all the requirements of the cellulose and the paper industries for short- and long-fibre pulps for practically any paper or board grade.
