This lecture deals with spine osteopathies distribution and incidence in cats and dogs followed during two years within the Radiological Clinic of the Veterinary Medicine Faculty in Bucharest (Romania). We examined 572 dogs and 56 cats and after clinical examinations it was necessary to conduct spine radiological examination. After examinations we established that vertebral osteopathies were: traumatic diseases (in 15.21 of dogs and 76.79 of cats), degenerative diseases (49.48 in dogs and 14.28 in cats), intervertebral disc diseases (34.09 in dogs), neoplastic process (0.35 in dogs and 3.75 in cats) and congenital abnormalities (0.87 in dogs and 5.36 in cats). The vertebral osteopathies incidence analysis in dog showed increased frequency of the disc degenerative changes in small breeds in comparison with large breeds. In large breeds spondylosis deformans dominated. A large number of traumatic diseases prevail in the cats despite the breed.
