Downstream gate control in an experimental channel has been investigated at the hydraulic laboratory of School of Civil Engineering in Subotica (Serbia and Montenegro). Water depth monitoring, data processing and computations were combined to enable an efficient gate control. Accurate water levels along the entire channel were computed using the upstream - depth measurements, combined with an appropriate unsteady - flow mathematical model. Designed gate-control modulus (a control-device and appropriate software) enables maintaining the water level upstream of the gate within the prescribed limits.
