The aim of this study was to test the ability of two commercially produced biopreparations to reduce the ink disease in European sweet chestnut in Slovakia. The biofungicides contained either aerial conidia of Trichoderma harzianum (Supresivit) or oospores of Pythium oligandrum (Polyversum). They were tested on Phytophthora cambivora and Ph. cinnamomi mycelia isolated from infected chestnut tissues. The inhibitory effect was more pronounced when using Polyversum than Supresivit as the efficiency of Pythium oligandrum was 25.3% (Ph. cambivora) and 26.2% (Ph. cinnamomi), whereas that of Trichoderma harzianum 9.1% (Ph. cambivora) and 9.2% (Ph. cinnamomi). The tested biofungicides confirmed their suitability in biological control of Phytophthora infections of Castanea sativa.
