Fulfilment of sweet corn seed requirement by farmers at the peatland of Kalampangan resettlement village in Central Kalimantan (Indonesia)

Kalangpangan is a transmigration village developed on deep inland peat, started in 1980. After long experience of cultivation on this area, farmers have grown some economic horticulture plants successfully, one of which is sweet corn. For growing the corn, the farmers use some hybrid cultivars. Owing to the high cost of the corn seed, they grow the progeny of the hybrid for four times, until the yield decreases. One farmer has undertaken unconsciously a phenotypic recurrent selection procedure since 1980 for fulfillment of this sweet corn seed requirements. So far, sweet corn population performance has been maintained
