Assessment of integrated farming system of beef cattle in South Sulawesi

Increase of productivity of beef cattle can be done through integrated farming systems, where beef cattle has optimized the use of agricultural wastes, such as rice straw, rice bran, stalk and corn bran, with legumes leaves. In addition, beef cattle's feces could be used as compost to organic fertilizer for paddy and secondary crops. The assessment was conducted in Takalar and Barru district with two farmer's group. In Takalar district, it has implemented the collective stable, while in Barru district was the individual stable. The result showed that application of non limited fermented rice straw + 3 kg refined rice bran + 10 g mineral (salt + manure SP 36) could increase body weight up to 0.41 kg/head/day in Barru district, and substitution of inorganic fertilizer (recommended manure) with organic fertilizer on paddy has increased yield up to 6.50 ton/ha (1 ton organic manure + 127.8 kg urea + 100 kg ZA + 8.3 kg SP 36 + 41.7 KCl) and 6.37 ton/ha (150 kg urea + 100 kg ZA + 50 kg SP 36 + 50 kg KCl)

Sapi memanfaatkan limbah pertanian seperti jerami dan dedak padi, batang dan dedak jagung, serta daun kacang-kacangan. Demikian juga dengan kotoran sapi melalui pengomposan menjadi pupuk organik untuk tanaman padi dan palawija. Pengkajian ini dilakukan di Kabupaten Takalar dan Kabupaten Barru masing-masing pada dua kelompok tani. Hasil pengkajian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian jerami fermentasi tidak terbatas + 3 kg dedak halus + 10 gram mineral (garam dapur + pupuk SP36) dapat menghasilkan pertambahan berat badan 0,41 kg/ekor/hari di Kabupaten Barru, sedangkan di Kabupaten Takalar sebesar kurang lebih 0,37 kg/ekor/hari. Substitusi pupuk anorganik (pupuk rekomendasi) dengan pupuk organik pada tanaman padi, memberikan hasil kering panen yaitu masing-masing 6,50 ton/ha (1 ton pupuk organik + 127,8 kg urea + 100 kg ZA + 8,3 kg SP36 + 41,7 KCl) dan 6,37 ton/ha (150 kg urea + 100 kg ZA + 50 kg SP36 + 50 kg KCl)
