A research on phylogenetic of fern habit and sori utilized as ornamental plant has been undertaken from January-March 2000. This research was aimed to find out the different types of ornamental plant especially ferns and its relationship based on the habit and sori. Survey method was used in the research, with purposive random sampling. The obtained ferns were then described and identified according to Holttum (1968) and Sastrapradja et al. (1979). The phylogenetic data were analyzed with the Hennig '86 version 1.5 computer program to know their close or loose relationship. There were 18 species of the ornamental ferns that were found in Purwokerto i.e.: Adiantum tenerum Sw.; A. caudatum L.; A. farleyense; A. phyllippense L.; A. cunetaum L.; A. macrophyllum Swartz; A. aethriopicum L.: A. microphyllum L.; A. cultratum L.; A. peruvianum KI.; A. polyphyllum Willd.; A. trapeziforme; A. capillus-veneris; Asplenium nidus L.; Platycerium coronarium (Koenig) Desv.; P. bifurcatum C. Chr.; Nephrolepis biserrata (Sw.) Schott and N. hirsutula (Fores.) Pr. Results of the phylogenetic analysis indicated that A. polyphyllum and A. macrophyllum have a close relationship whereas A. cunearum and A. tenerum showed a loose relationship to the above ferns. N. biserrata and N. hirsutula exhibit a loose relationship to A. trapeziforme while P. bifurcatum and P. coronarium tend to have a close relationship to A. farleyense
