In 1995, the fruit size of 'Nijisseiki' pears in Tottori prefecture was distinctively smaller than that of normal year. The ground of this phenomenon was estimated that low temperature in the middle or the end of May induced the poor development of fruits. In this study, we artificially reproduced the abnormal weather and investigated the influence of treatment with Gibberellin paste on fruit development of 'Gold Nijisseiki' pears. 1. The size of harvested fruits from the trees cultivated at 1.5degC lower temperature than the average degrees during 20 to 30 days after the artificial pollination tended to distinctively be small. 2. In the young fruits of the pear trees kept under the low temperature, treatment wiht Gibberellin paste on fruit scape at 50 days after the pollination promoted the development of fruits. However, the effect was not equal to that of the experiment under the normal temperature. 3. The size of harvested fruits from the trees detached their leaves in autumn of the previous year tended to apparently be small. 4. In the young fruits carried out the leaf detaching, treatment with Gibberellin paste on the fruit scape at 50 days after pollination promoted the development of fruits. Nevertheless, the effect was not equal to that of the experiment in non-detaching leaves. 5. The maturity of fruits was generally accelerated by treatment with Gibberellin paste. The detail effects of the leaf detachment and of low temperature on the maturity or the sugar content were still unclear. 6. When low temperature was predicted during the stage of young fruit and the poor fruit development was apprehended, it was possible to minimize the bad influence through the Gibberellin treatment by 50 days after the pollination.
