"Mienoemi, a new paddy rice variety with very early maturation and high eating quality, was bred in 1997 at Agricultural Research Center of Mie Pref, STPC. This rice cultivar was selected from the progenies derived from the cross between Yamagata41, highly resistant to lodging and Hitomebore with good eating quality. Mienoemi ripens by about 4 days earlier than Koshihikari. Plant type of this cultivar belongs to a slightly greater panicle-number type with medium length of culm. Its lodging resistance is medium. The chilling resistance is slightly strong and the grains at the pre-harvest is sprouting-resistant. The resistance to leaf blast is intermediate and that of spike blast is slightly strong. The hulled rice is glossy and the eating quality is equivalent to or slightly higher than that of Koshihikari."
